The Hills United Reformed Church is a vibrant congregation of Christ's Church which seeks to serve and worship God according to His gracious call. We are:
United - One with the saints of all the ages, serving the One, Triune God - Father, Son & Holy Spirit - according to the one faith which alone allows us to find peace with God and comfort through Christ!
Reformed - Descending from the Reformation of the 1500s, which restored the Church to her Biblical confession. That confession acknowledges: that sinful man is alienated from God; that God is sovereign and gracious in reconciling men to Himself; and that we are called to live thankful, praise-filled lives in answer to His goodness!
Church - Joined together as a covenant community of God's people by virtue of our calling to confess Christ in every area of life - at home, at work and at play - striving shoulder to shoulder to understand and live according to God's Word, to His glory!
As a Church, we find that God's Word and the Gospel of Christ bring great joy and comfort to us, as well as glory to God. The first two questions of our Catechism (a teaching aid that helps us to learn the truths of God's Word) explain something of this comfort we have found.
1. Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
A. That I am not my own, but belong - body and soul, in life and in death - to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.
Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me whole-heartedly willing and ready, from now on, to live for Him.
2. Q. What must you know to live and die in the joy of this comfort?
A. Three things:
Guilt: First, how great my sin and misery are;
Grace: Second, how I am set free from all my sins and misery;
Gratitude: Third, how I am to thank God for such deliverance.
Those who know the glorious truth of this confession can face all things without fear, and strive to face all things in such a way as to bring glory to God.
If you have questions about what we believe, about God and His Word, or about your eternal security, please don't hesitate to give us a call or to join us for worship!
